💵 How Salvador Dali Dined at Someone Else’s Expense*
The surrealist Salvador Dali loved luxurious restaurants—but hated paying for them. So he devised a bold scam: turning his signature into personal currency. Gathering crowds in Paris’s finest dining spots, the artist would order lavish delicacies and expensive wines. At the end of the meal, Dali would calmly write out a check—then flip it over and leave a quick sketch on the back.
He had perfectly calculated human psychology. No restaurateur would ever cash that check. Why? Because the original drawing on the reverse was worth dozens of times more than the price of the meal. Instead, those checks ended up framed on restaurant walls—while not a single cent was ever deducted from the cunning genius’s account. Boldness and brand, it turned out, were all he needed for a lifetime of free feasts.
