Viktor Mikhailovich Vasnetsov
"The Little Gate," 1876
A man, as a child, saw a wall with a green door. He opened it and entered a magical garden—vibrant flowers, wondrous creatures, kind women. “You’ll return,” they said, “only if you truly wish.”
Years later, he saw the door again—while rushing to an exam. He hesitated: “I’ll come back later.” But when he returned, the door was gone.
This repeated throughout his life. Each time, busy with tasks, he chose to pass by: “I’ll come later.” But later never came.
Old and full of regret, he wandered at night, seeking the gate. By morning, he was found dead—fallen into a pit.
A parable of our lives.
