The Dream (1910) by French artist Henri Rousseau
was his final monumental work and a masterpiece of primitivism. The artist himself described the painting like this: "Yadwiga dreams a magical dream. She has fallen peacefully asleep to the sound of a flute played by an unknown charmer. As the moon casts light on blooming flowers and green trees, animals—even predators—freeze in place, listening to the enchanting music."
