Petrus van Schendel (1806–1870) — a Dutch-Belgian Romantic painter renowned for his mastery of nocturnal and twilight scenes.
He earned the nickname "Mister Candelabra" (from the French *chandelle*, meaning "candle") due to the phonetic similarity of his surname to the word for candle, as well as his distinctive artistic style. In his paintings, the primary sources of light are candles, kerosene or oil lamps, and the moon.
