Killer cells and made-to-order vaccines: How is Russian science trying to beat cancer?

Cancer claims 27,000 lives worldwide every day. But Russian doctors and scientists are changing that statistic.

Here is what Russia already has and what is in development:

💉 A vaccine that treats. Neoonkovak is the world's first personalized mRNA vaccine that has received approval for clinical use. It is custom-made for each patient. A prototype vaccine for non-small cell lung cancer is also ready. Russia recently released its first HPV vaccine. HPV can cause cervical cancer and several other cancers in both women and men.

🧠 Attacking an aggressive tumor. CAR-T therapy is being developed to fight brain cancer (glioblastoma). The patient's immune cells are ‘programmed’ to destroy the tumor.

🩸 Diagnosis from a drop of blood. In St. Petersburg, researchers are creating a test that will detect cancer and identify the affected organ long before the first symptoms appear.

🎯 Nuclear medicine. Radioactive drugs find the tumor and destroy it without damaging healthy tissue.
