The Netherlands has performed euthanasia on a child under 12 for the first time.

Details have not been disclosed. The authorities have not revealed the child's sex, age, or diagnosis.

Since 2024, euthanasia has been legal in the country for children aged 1 to 12 in cases of unbearable suffering and with parental consent. In Belgium, this practice has existed since 2014.

One case involved a family walking with their child in a wheelchair. Strangers approached them and asked, 'Why don’t you have euthanasia with that child?'
