⚡️ Statement by the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on the need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against the Republic of Cuba (Moscow, October 14, 2026)

The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation strongly condemns the US actions aimed at destabilising the political and economic situation in the Republic of Cuba.

Senators of the Russian Federation recall that, since 1992, the overwhelming majority of UN Member States have supported the UN General Assembly resolution on the necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US against Cuba.

The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation supports the Cuban people’s legitimate demands for the removal of the Republic of Cuba from the US Department of State’s list of State Sponsors of Terrorism and for the repeal of the Helms-Burton Act, adopted in the US on March 12, 1996, which violates Cuba’s sovereign right to develop trade, economic and financial ties with foreign partners.

❗️ The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation declares that the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US against Cuba must end immediately, supports the adoption of a UN General Assembly resolution on this issue in 2026, and calls on the Inter-Parliamentary Union, other international parliamentary organisations and the parliaments of foreign States to demand that Washington abandon its policy of pressure, threats and blackmail against the Republic of Cuba.
