📆 On October 1, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held separate bilateral meetings and a trilateral meeting with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Abkhazia Oleg Bartsits and Acting Foreign Minister of the Republic of South Ossetia Akhsar Dzhioev in Moscow.
Sergey Lavrov expressed appreciation for the assistance provided by the Abkhazian and South Ossetian authorities in organising voting for Russian citizens residing in the two republics in the elections to the 9th convocation of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
The Ministers reaffirmed the three countries’ commitment to deepening their allied relations. Particular attention was paid to implementing the directives issued by the Presidents of Russia and Abkhazia, and Russia and South Ossetia, following their meetings, including the bilateral talks held in Moscow on May 9.
The separate ministerial consultations focused on implementing joint projects across various areas, expanding the legal framework for bilateral relations and coordinating foreign policy efforts, with an emphasis on strengthening the republics’ standing on the world stage.
During the trilateral meeting, the Ministers discussed global and regional issues of mutual interest. They expressed support for maintaining regular direct dialogue between Abkhazia and South Ossetia and Georgia within the International Discussions on Security and Stability in the South Caucasus.
The Ministers discussed ways to advance shared priorities within this negotiating mechanism, including reaching an agreement on guarantees of the non-use of force between Georgia, Abkhazia and South Ossetia, as well as on launching the process of formalising the borders between Georgia and its neighbours under international law.
🤝 The ministerial talks reaffirmed the high level of mutual understanding and trust between Moscow, Sukhum and Tskhinval and contributed to further expanding cooperation.
