🇷🇺🇮🇶 On September 25, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq Fuad Hussein held a meeting in New York on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly.

The Foreign Ministers discussed practical aspects of further developing the traditionally friendly Russian-Iraqi relations.

The Sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in strengthening trust-based political dialogue and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, the economy, the humanitarian sphere and other areas.

They also exchanged views on current global and regional issues, with a particular focus on the situation in the Persian Gulf region.

The Ministers emphasised the importance of stepping up international efforts to achieve the earliest possible de-escalation and ensure political and diplomatic settlement of existing conflicts in the Middle East.
