💬 Sergey Lavrov: Today, we plan to officially announce the start of work on drafting the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century.

To this end, we propose that you consider and approve the Joint Statement. It is a very straightforward document that simply announces the launch of this work.

We have proposed a new Eurasian security architecture as a foundation for the peaceful, steady development of all the peoples of our continent – the world’s largest and richest, and home to several of its oldest civilisations.

In putting forward this initiative, we took into account the fact that the rise of multipolarity will remain the most enduring trend in global affairs for many years to come.

We also recognised the need to respond to the rapid spread and escalation of conflicts across Eurasia, which, of course, divert resources and attention from constructive endeavours and claim human lives.

We asked ourselves what mechanisms could help ensure predictability in the development of our vast continent. We concluded that we need to bring together the broadest possible circle of like-minded partners who share a common understanding of the need to develop principles for coexistence among all Eurasian states, based on mutual respect and mutual benefit, in the new era of #Multipolarity.
