🇷🇺🇱🇧 On September 23, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Prime Minister of Lebanon Nawaf Salam held a meeting in New York on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly.

They held an engaged exchange of views on developments in the Middle East, focusing on the situation in and around Lebanon. The Russian Side reaffirmed its principled support for the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of this friendly country.

The Sides stressed the need to end hostilities in Lebanon and create conditions for a political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

Particular attention was paid to the possibility of maintaining a UN presence in Lebanon in light of the forthcoming expiry of the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (#UNIFIL).

🤝 They also discussed further strengthening traditionally friendly Russia-Lebanon ties, including maintaining regular political dialogue.
