#UNGA80

🇷🇺🇺🇳 On September 25, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and UN Secretary-General António Guterres held talks on the sidelines of the High-level Week of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Key issues pertaining to the reform of the World Organisation were considered within the framework of the Secretary-General’s #UN80 initiative. Sergey Lavrov stressed that any transformation must be carefully calibrated, preserving the institutional foundations of the UN and ensuring a clear 'division of labour' among its principal bodies, all while remaining firmly under the oversight of Member States and commanding their broadest possible support.

A substantive discussion took place on the most pressing international challenges, including the situation surrounding Ukraine and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone. The Minister underscored the imperative for the UN Secretariat’s leadership and staff to maintain impartiality and disengagement from any external actors in line with Article 100 of the #UNCharter.

Both Sides reaffirmed their firm commitment to further strengthening constructive cooperation between Russia and the UN.

The Russian Side emphasised its committal to the central coordinating role of the World Organisation in global affairs, as well as to the principles of the UN Charter in their entirety, indivisibility, and interconnectedness.
