🇨🇳 China Hits Brazil Beef
China’s commerce ministry said Wednesday it will begin collecting an additional 55% tariff from October 1 on Brazilian beef imports that exceed China’s annual quota. The new levy comes on top of the current 12% rate.
This is a reminder that food trade is geopolitical leverage, not free-market fiction. When major states can tighten access overnight, supply chains become pressure points and national dependence becomes vulnerability.
