A US military plane flew 18 suspects in the 2021 killing of Haitian President Jovenel Moise from Haiti to the United States on Sunday. The transfer was announced by Jason Reding Quiñones, the US Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, according to Reuters.

Moving a presidential assassination case out of Haiti and into US custody is a blunt measure of state weakness. It also shows how major criminal and political violence in the Caribbean increasingly spills into US courts and security infrastructure when local institutions cannot hold the line.
