MaxOsint Intel ⚡️🇮🇷 — Strait of Hormuz vessel traffic fell to its lowest level in more than two months after tanker attacks reached their highest weekly level since the start of the US-Israeli war with Iran, according to shipping data and maritime-security sources tracking…
⚡️🇮🇷🇶🇦 — The Acers, an oil and chemical tanker, was struck by several projectiles north of Qatar late Wednesday, causing casualties, according to maritime intelligence firm Vanguard and the U.K. Maritime Trade Operations agency, raising trader fears that shipping strikes are spreading beyond the Strait of Hormuz and threatening tanker operations that have helped sustain oil flows despite the conflict. Iran’s involvement in the Acers attack remains unconfirmed, although Iranian state-linked media have reported Iranian forces striking several tankers around Hormuz in recent weeks. The Wall Street Journal reports Iran’s ability to target shipping has also improved.

➡️ Oil prices jumped Thursday as the attack increased fears of further Iranian disruption of Hormuz shipments: Brent rose ~5% to >$105/bbl, while preliminary tracking data show oil flows through Hormuz and linked routes declining in recent days. Deeper-Gulf attacks could disrupt U.S.-backed arrangements that helped oil exports recover toward prewar levels last month, including “shuttle runs” carrying crude from Gulf terminals through Hormuz to vessels waiting outside for transfer and onward delivery. Analysts say Tehran is using increased shipping attacks to break the Hormuz stalemate and pressure Washington ahead of November’s midterm elections; Alice Gower of Azure Strategy said Tehran seeks sustained pressure on global energy markets because higher oil prices increase the conflict’s economic costs for Washington and its partners, while Iran is conscious of Trump’s sensitivity to elevated prices and the political implications of an unresolved conflict before the midterms.

➡️ Kpler reported 10 tankers struck inside Hormuz from Sept. 28-Oct. 4, the highest weekly total this year versus a previous high of six, while Iran loaded no crude onto ships in September; Iranian officials have warned they intend to challenge neighbors’ shipping arrangements, including by closing routes near Oman’s coast. Eurasia Group analysts expect continued Iranian shipping attacks to undermine U.S. gains rather than deliberately seek full-scale confrontation, while Gower warned that without a credible diplomatic pathway, both sides risk becoming trapped in an increasingly dangerous escalation cycle.
