What was the situation regarding the Israeli fighter jets and the plane?
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu:
It was reported that Israeli fighter jets had started to scramble because a passenger plane was plunging. When asked how close they were to making a tough decision to shoot it down if it wasn't recovered, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu explained that it was one of the toughest situations—similar to 5 or 6 previous incidents where an unidentified passenger plane headed toward Israel with no communication. He noted that while he wouldn't go into all the details, they always take such threats extremely seriously given the history of 9/11, but thankfully they made the right decision.
