⚡️🇷🇺🇮🇷 — Russia has heard statements about a possible Iranian withdrawal from the NPT that require further clarification, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. Moscow considers the NPT a cornerstone of the nuclear non-proliferation regime and does not want Iran to leave the treaty, hoping Tehran remains a responsible NPT participant, while noting Iranian statements that it has no plans to develop nuclear weapons. — TASS
➡️ Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev said the company is examining several sites in Iran for new nuclear power plants of both high and low capacity, while 80 Rosatom personnel have returned to the country to work on two additional Bushehr units. Construction of Units 2 and 3 entered the implementation phase three years ago. Iranian reports by Farsna & Tasnim agencies also cited the Seventh Development Plan’s target of 3,000 MW of new nuclear generation and a threefold increase in nuclear power capacity, which they said would compensate the electricity shortfall in the industrial sector.
➡️ Separately, Likhachev added that Armenia is expected to decide in the coming months on the technical specifications and partners for a new nuclear plant, and said Rosatom is confident the existing Armenian nuclear plant will continue operating through 2036.
