⚡️🇫🇮🇺🇦🇷🇺 — Finnish President Alexander Stubb said he had pleaded with SpaceX owner Elon Musk to expand Starlink coverage for Ukraine into areas where ballistic missile launchers are located, whether in occupied Ukrainian territory or Russia, arguing that enabling such use for strategic purposes “would save lives.” Starlink does not currently operate over Russian territory, while Ukrainian officials believe that enabling Ukrainian use inside Russia would allow weapons to strike mobile ballistic missile launchers located within several hundred kilometres of the border — Reuters.

➡️ Looking ahead to winter, Stubb identified three priorities for Ukraine: air defenses, energy installations and funding, saying that “even Starlink would be to a certain extent a good air defense there” and that he did not expect the war to end before winter. He also welcomed the August resumption of US-led peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, which followed visits by US envoys to Moscow and Kyiv, but said the “easiest solution” would be an unconditional ceasefire to “stop the killing,” followed by negotiations on security, territory, reconstruction, compensation and other issues.
