⚡️🇮🇱🇱🇧🇱🇧 — Israeli army officers are warning that forces deployed in southern Lebanon could face a heavy and "bloody" cost given the stalemate on the front as winter approaches, with Hezbollah rebuilding its ranks and repositioning fighters as it learns lessons and tries to activate guerrilla warfare cells, according to Walla, cited by Euronews.
The Israeli army has designated a "destruction zone" separating the area under its control (the Yellow Line) from the rest of Lebanese territory, with Northern Command chief Maj. Gen. Rafi Milo saying anyone who enters it "will be killed."
During winter, southern Lebanon's soil turns to muddy swamps as rains intensify, hindering tanks and heavy armored vehicles and making them vulnerable to getting bogged down and falling into ambushes, while mountain slopes and narrow roads become slippery and dangerous for supply lines. Stormy weather also restricts the air force and drones, as dense clouds, fog, and snowstorms obscure visibility and reduce strike accuracy, giving Hezbollah greater freedom of movement.
Officers believe Hezbollah "will not remain forever in a state of discipline and without a meaningful response," and that its leadership "is eagerly awaiting developments on the Iranian scene to act, as everything depends on Tehran." They acknowledge the group suffers from weakness in arsenal and funds but stress it should not be underestimated as it rebuilds for the next stage.
➡️ It remains unclear whether the Israeli army, in light of the budget crisis, will allocate the necessary funds to prepare for winter on all fronts. There is also talk of an Israeli desire to advance toward Nabatieh, one of Hezbollah's strongholds and the second largest city in the south, while the army is currently limiting itself to air raids in the area.
