We are Hosting guest authors who make high quality pre-historc or ancient history maps at https://maptism.org/maps/

Licensing, Copyright, Description, Sources and Watermarks are yours, we wont profit off of your work, and the site has measures against AI crawlers so your work wont get stolen or be used for AI crawlers to train off of.

The site is meant to be a hub for:
1. academics
2. content creators
to find the good shit that's sourced and has the manual work going into it in a sea of slop.

They can then reach out to you to work with you or even come to a licensing agreement depending on how you wish to handle it, all through Maptism.
Hosting is entirely free/covered by us, and in addition to AI training protection we also have a steganographic pipeline that can embed whatever license and information in the maps.

If this interests you, write us at contact@maptism.org

The ceramics of the Vučedol culture have almost nothing in Common with that of the Yamnaya culture, instead drawing heavily from that of the Baden and Kostolac cultures. What the Vučedol does inherit are the Shaft-Hole axes and Kurgan burials, which are spares in Pannonia but become dominant in the Adriatic under the Ljubljana and Cetina cultures.
The Vučedol culture also heavily influences its neighbours, most notably the Bell Beaker culture. Bell Beaker "Begleitkeramik" of the East Group is influenced very heavily on that of the Mako variant of the Vucedol Culture, especially the Cross-footed bowls, which the Vucedol Culture also shares with the Catacomb Culture.

Despite this connection, the Vučedol is likely not just the ancestor of Illyrians, but also Daco-Thracians. E-V13 remains largely obscure until after Vučedol, and would have been assimilated by IE-Speakers descended of the Vučedol somewhere in Banat during the Broomstroke Horizon period. This Horizon formed primarily out of the Mako variant of the Vučedol Culture and expanded into Oltenia and Transylvania, becoming the basis for the Verbicioara, Vatin, Maros, Wieternberg and Tei cultures. The Vatin culture would later evolve into the Belegis Culture and the Channelled ware Horizon, spreading E-V13 and Daco-Thracian.

Unfortunately, all of these groups cremated, so we can only speculate about their ethnicity using archaeological origins and influences.

Samples from the Vučedol culture are scarce, with two having 32-36%-65-60% PIE-Neolithic ancestry.
Of the two samples with Steppe ancestry, one is male, with Y-DNA R1b-Z2103>M12149, which further supports a Yamnaya origin.
The one sample without Steppe is G2a2-PF3148 and located in Dalmatia, most likely an individual of the late Lasinja culture that managed to assimilate into Vučedol Civilization.

Another haplogroup that is certain to have existed in Vučedol is J-L283, the haplogroup dominant in the later Cetina Culture, which evolves seamlessly out of the Adriatic variant of the Ljubljana Vučedol Culture. J-L283 also appears in the Maros/Mokrin culture, which is descended from the Mako and Nyirseg, thus ultimately, Vučedol cultures. This haplogroup was also later common in the Glasinac-Mati culture and the historical Illyrians.

Map of the Vučedol Culture 3000-2500bc

The Vučedol Culture is a poorly understood yet incredibly significant culture, representing the Indo-Europeanization of the balkans, initiation of the bronze age, social stratification, and rise of the warrior caste.

The Vučedol Culture forms first in the Slavonia-Syrmia area between the Danube and Sava around 3000 or 3100bc, formed in the basis of the preceding Kostolac Culture, with influence from the Yamnaya Culture.

This culture expanded rapidly after 2800bc, occupying the entire pannonian basin as well as the adriatic coast, displacing the previous eneolithic cultures and/or absorbing them.
Part of the Vučedol cultures dominance is owed to the unqiue shaft-hole axes. In the early phase, Babyabic axes of the Yamnaya Culture were used, which were developed into Kozarac and Fajsz axes in later periods.

Craniometric types (Skull Shapes) of the Bell Beaker Culture in Europe (2500-2200bc)

The Primary form of the Beaker culture, the "Beaker Type" is Hypsimorph Brachycephalic with a Flat Occiput, but there is also a Brachiform Cromagnid type. The two are hard to distinguish and get confused by some authors

MAPTISM update: over 20 new maps about the Southeast European Bronze Age have been uploaded in high resolution and quality.

Only thing left is... compiling the sources... but you can look at them in the meantime!
I will forego writing individual paragraphs for these groups, instead working toward a mega-post on the entire history of Southeastern Europe.

Check them out here: maptism.org/maps/

One feature which was are especially proud to present is the Tiled Map Viewer:

Many of my Maps are in the hundreds of Megabytes and take minutes to load. On MAPTISM, you can explore these maps with no performance strain on your end and no downloading needed, the Map loads tiled as you zoom, giving you the same Resolution as a full download occupying a third of a Gigabyte.

Of course, standard downloads are also possible.

You can try it out on a new Maptism exclusive map of Corded Ware and Yamnaya here: https://maptism.org/maps/corded-ware-yamnaya/
