🇨🇦 B.C.'s drug decriminalization experiment didn't change overdose deaths: study

The sharpest part is this: B.C. was told decriminalizing fentanyl, cocaine, meth and heroin was a vital way to save lives. It wasn’t. The new study, as reported, found no real difference in toxic drug deaths or hospitalizations versus the rest of Canada. B.C. overdoses fell 19 per cent, Ontario fell 25 per cent, and neither province needed activist slogans about stigma to get there. So the grand progressive experiment delivered less policing of possession, more ideological chest-thumping, and none of the promised miracle results.

This is the Trudeau-era governing formula in miniature: replace order with therapy jargon, call it compassion, then act shocked when reality refuses to cooperate. B.C. even had to partially re-criminalize drug possession in public after communities pushed back over disorder in parks and other spaces. Of course they did. When elites treat social breakdown as a branding exercise, regular people get the chaos and the lectures. The study’s own warning is the real takeaway: over-promise, under-deliver, erode trust. That is liberal governance in one sentence.
