🇨🇦 Canada's young entrepreneurs are fleeing south. We need to keep them here

Canada trains the talent, taxes the life out of it, smothers it in approvals, then acts stunned when the ambitious bolt for the U.S. About 65,000 residents lost to net emigration last year, mostly young high-skilled workers, and nearly one in two Canadian founders who raised over $1 million in 2024 are now based in the U.S., as reported. That is not a mystery. It is the logical product of a country run for managers, consultants, and summit photo-ops instead of builders.

The comic part is Ottawa’s answer: another Investment Summit under Mark Carney, because naturally the regime that helped make Canada uncompetitive will now host a conference to save it. Canada has top tech talent markets, strong schools, and proven founders, but the state’s instinct is still bureaucracy, grant-chasing, and government-designed innovation. Translation: dependency dressed up as strategy. A serious country rewards risk, protects its own economic base, and gets out of the way. This one lectures, regulates, and watches its future relocate to America.
