Mark Carney just launched Digital Transformation Canada and called it a boost for digital sovereignty. Right, because nothing says sovereign Canada like handing the keys to a former Google CFO with a McKinsey pedigree. Patrick Pichette is now the face of Ottawa modernization, while Shared Services Canada and chunks of multiple departments get fused into one more shiny central bureaucracy, as reported. Same government class that cannot process passports, control procurement, or build IT systems without lighting billions on fire now wants to scale AI across the state.

The sales pitch is lower costs, less duplication, better service, plus federal buying power to prop up Canadian AI firms. Translation: more contracts, more surveillance capacity, more managerial jargon, and another layer between citizens and accountability. Carney keeps importing the exact Davos-bred operator class that hollowed out public trust, then wraps it in a maple-sovereignty slogan. Canada does not need a tech priesthood run by ex-global corporate executives. It needs a government that serves citizens instead of digitizing its own incompetence.
