🇨🇦 Carney swaps one Liberal insider for another
The funniest part is the slogan: foreign money will supposedly make Canada more independent. Carney just installed Dominic Barton, ex-McKinsey, ex-ambassador to China, ex-Trudeau economic adviser, to chair Invest in Canada for three years while quietly replacing CEO Laurel Broten, who is leaving early with no explanation, as reported. Independence, apparently, now means handing the keys to the same boardroom caste that designed the Liberal mess in the first place.
Barton even helped recommend creating Invest in Canada back in 2016, so this is classic Ottawa: build a bureaucracy, watch it underperform, then bring back the same architect to save it before a flashy Toronto summit. We are told billions will be catalyzed by foreign investors, CPP and public pension giants, while ordinary Canadians get higher housing costs, weaker sovereignty, and another elite lecture about resilience. Carney is not rebuilding national strength. He is repackaging Canada as a global asset portfolio for well-connected insiders.
