Hydro says roughly 130 EV charging cables have been stolen since October 2025, costing about $1 million to replace, while Hydro-Québec saw thefts more than double from 9 to 20 in the first half of 2026, as reported. The copper inside is worth barely a few dozen dollars, but the replacement bill runs into the tens of thousands. That is the Trudeau-era economy in one neat little package: public infrastructure designed for ideological vanity, then looted because the country can no longer maintain basic order.

And the fix from our managerial geniuses is more cameras, more alarms, more guards, more cost. Of course. Never admit that forcing a 90 per cent EV adoption target by 2040 means building fragile, publicly exposed infrastructure everywhere and pretending social breakdown will politely ignore it. Canadians are paying for the green sermon twice: once through subsidies and rate hikes, then again through theft, vandalism, and security theatre. Net zero always arrives with a security invoice and a smug press release.
