🇨🇦 Ottawa suddenly discovers dependence is bad

After sending roughly 70 per cent of defence spending south for years, Ottawa now pretends it has uncovered a grand strategic truth: relying on Washington has risks. Brilliant timing. Only after a tariff spat do Mark Carney’s people start talking about sovereignty, Europe, Asia, and self-reliance, as reported. Stephen Fuhr says Canadians would not stomach sole-source U.S. contracts, yet this same political class happily tolerated chronic underinvestment, procurement paralysis, and a military kept on life support.

This is the Trudeau-era hangover in a tailored suit. They outsourced defence, hollowed out state capacity, then act shocked that America wants allies to carry their own weight. Now the fix is more procurement theatre, maybe fewer Black Hawks, maybe a second Saab fleet, maybe a review of 88 F-35s that never ends. Real sovereignty means building Canadian capacity before a crisis, not pivoting to Brussels and Tokyo because Washington got rude. Globalist dependency is still dependency, just with different accents.
