For almost three years, I’ve answered a limited and random number of questions about the Capitol CCTV video trove on TV, podcasts, and social media:

-How many cameras?
-How many hours really exist?
-Who blocked access — and why?

I’m now going to release the definitive series exclusively on X. Free. No paywall.

The first five reporters given access inside the Capitol CCTV viewing room were: Tucker Carlson, John Solomon, Julie Kelly, Joe Hanneman… and me.

That was early 2023. By the end of the year, with a new Speaker of the House, the rules of access changed.

How many hours of J6 Capitol CCTV video actually exist?

Early numbers floated from 11,000 to 40,000. Both were incomplete.

U.S. Capitol Police control roughly 1,800 cameras covering the Capitol Building, Visitor Center, eight House & Senate office buildings, three Library of Congress buildings, tunnels, traffic cams, and the rest of the ~20-building Capitol Complex.

(Plus additional cameras we can see but that never appear on any official list.)
