🤖🏗️ Caterpillar Brings AI from Mines to Software
Caterpillar is applying decades of experience in mining automation to a wider range of new AI projects. The company now uses artificial intelligence to deploy autonomous machines, assist field technicians, and improve internal operations.
Its Cat AI Assistant uses proprietary data from about 1.6 million connected machines. Technicians can ask for repair instructions, identify parts, and troubleshoot problems through voice commands.
Caterpillar also creates digital twins to analyze industrial sites. Its software teams use AI agents to modernize legacy code, generate and test new programs, and detect defects earlier. However, the company says successful AI adoption requires changes to workflows—not just new technology.
