🇬🇹 Guatemala. Crash of an Helicopter H130 (TG-GUH) into Lake Atitlán near Panajachel : 5 survivors, 2 missing. The Civil Aviation Authority said it took off from La Aurora Airport at 12:11 p.m. (local) on Oct. 8, heading for the lake's north shore hotel amidst rainy weather.
Lake Atitlán is one of Guatemala’s main tourist destinations. It is the deepest lake in Central America and the second largest in the country by surface area. It reaches a depth of 1100ft and has a length of 11 miles and a surface area of 50 square miles.
The incident comes just days after a medical helicopter with five on board crashed into the ocean off the coast of Catalina Island.
