Syrian government officials and Hezbollah secretly held face-to-face talks in Turkey in September, marking the first known meeting between the two sides since Bashar al-Assad’s fall, according to Reuters.
The talks were facilitated by Turkish security and intelligence agencies. Iran was reportedly disappointed that they didn’t take part directly.
Syria asked Hezbollah to stop cross-border arms smuggling and dismantle remaining cells in Syria. They assured Hezbollah it would not intervene militarily in Lebanon to disarm the group.
Hezbollah pledged not to interfere in Syrian affairs but did not directly respond to the other Syrian requests, and no final agreement was reached.
