The Vatican portfolio today includes stocks in Celanese, Chase Manhattan, Colgate, Dan River, General Foods, Merck, Procter & Gamble, Standard Oil… A substantial part of the $3 billion being spent in the present urban transformation of lower Manhattan by the Uris Building Corporation and Tishman Realty & Construction is being provided by the Vatican, which is also involved in the building of the 300-acre World Trade Center.
