🚨 Indian Navy is set to expand its presence in Lakshadweep with a proposed INS Bitra on Bitra Island.

The administration has begun the process to acquire the island for defence and strategic use, with a Social Impact Assessment initiated after a July 11, 2025 notification.

Bitra could become the Navy’s third major footprint in Lakshadweep after INS Dweeprakshak (Kavaratti) and INS Jatayu (Minicoy), helping address surveillance gaps in the northern Arabian Sea.
