๐ Moscow, IRNA โ National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) chief Saeid Tavakoli says that recent wars launched by the United States and the Israeli regime are contributing to the global energy crisis, calling for stronger regional cooperation to safeguard energy supplies.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the eighth Russian Energy Week International Forum in Moscow on Friday, Tavakoli said countries needed geopolitical security alongside reliable networks, infrastructure and adequate energy supplies to ensure energy stability.
โ
On recent US-Israeli strikes on facilities at South Pars, he described the attack as the largest against gas infrastructure worldwide but said Iranโs energy network had experienced no disruption. He attributed its resilience to diversified fuel sources, varied infrastructure, experienced specialists and timely emergency responses.
โ
Tavakoli said Iran was prepared to respond appropriately to developments amid heightened regional tensions.
โ
Referring to discussions under the 3+3 regional cooperation framework, he said existing infrastructure offered significant opportunities to strengthen energy cooperation with South Caucasus countries and their neighbors, helping promote regional stability.
โ
Tavakoli said Iranโs strategic geographical position enabled it to connect Central Asian energy networks with the South Caucasus and countries along the southern shores of the Persian Gulf.
โ
On a memorandum signed in 2024 on Russian gas supplies to Iran, he said NIGC and Russiaโs Gazprom had held sustained negotiations toward a final agreement. Remaining issues include the pipeline route, pricing mechanism and payment arrangements. Resolving these technical and commercial matters could pave the way for a final contract.
โ
The forum featured more than 30 specialized sessions and over 100 international speakers, including discussions on energy cooperation to strengthen peace and security in the South Caucasus under the 3+3 initiative, involving three South Caucasus countries โ Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia โ as well as three major actors โ Iran, Turkey, and Russia.
