📌 Tehran, IRNA — The deputy for international relations of the Central Bank of Iran warns that unilateral measures can deepen economic fragmentation, increase risks, and fuel uncertainty in the global economy.
Speaking at the G24 meeting of central bank governors and finance ministers in Bangkok, Thailand, on Tuesday, Abolfazl Kodehi stressed the need to strengthen economic cooperation, enhance economic resilience, and reform international institutions to address the consequences of unilateralism.
The official noted that globalization has created significant opportunities for many economies over the past decades, but progress in developing international institutions and frameworks has slowed in recent years.
Unilateral economic policies undermine global economic cooperation and make the world economy more vulnerable to uncertainty and risks, he added.
Kodehi further emphasized regional cooperation’s potential to protect economies from risks arising from global fragmentation, noting that effective institutions and practical frameworks are needed to facilitate trade, investment, financing, and technical cooperation.
The 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group will take place October 12 to 18 in Bangkok, Thailand.
