📌 Tehran, IRNA - The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC)’s Navy announced Sunday that a violating supertanker carrying crude oil suffered a powerful explosion after striking a naval mine as it was attempting to exit the Strait of Hormuz through an unauthorized route.
The supertanker, which had turned off its navigation and positioning systems, is burning in a massive fire after hitting the naval mine, the IRGC Navy’s public relations office said in a statement.
The flames are clearly visible to coastal residents, it added.
“A massive fire is the fate of any violating tanker that seeks to ignore the security and rules of the Strait of Hormuz,” the statement warned.
This is the third violating tanker since yesterday to strike naval mines in the unauthorized route of the Strait of Hormuz and catch fire.
