📌 Tehran, IRNA — Former International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Mohamed ElBaradei has mocked US President Donald Trump’s complaint about not receiving the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.
In a post on X on Saturday, ElBaradei sarcastically suggested that Trump deserved the prize for “settling” ten wars, including the wars in Iran and Venezuela that Trump waged in 2026, the second year of his presidency.
“Oh, those terrible Norwegians. It’s the second year in a row! He settled 8 wars and if you add Iran and Venezuela, it’s 10,” ElBaradei said.
On Friday, Trump lashed out at Norway, which hosts the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, over its decision to deny him the prestigious award, calling it disgraceful and saying it had strained Norway.
“The United States of America, represented by me as your president, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, but didn’t. And this is an indelible stain on the country of Norway, and those people that made such a disgraceful and embarrassing decision,” The Guardian quoted Trump as saying at a campaign rally in Syracuse, New York.
The Nobel Committee awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize to Navi Pillay, a former South African UN human rights chief and International Criminal Court (ICC) judge who oversaw a UN report concluding that Israel had committed genocide in Gaza.
“The Nobel Prize was given out today to a liberal person who works at the United Nations, who nobody has ever heard of,” Trump said of Pillay.
After announcing Pillay as the Peace Prize laureate, the United States announced sanctions against the ICC and called on allied member countries to rein it in.
