Final countdown in Almetyevsk! ⏱

In just a few minutes, the final round of the VI International Petroleum Youth Forum kicks off — right here, in the heart of Russia’s oil and gas industry.

So, what have our InteRussia fellows and their teams been working on these past few days? Brace yourselves — these are real challenges the sector is facing today:

🔬 Waste treatment and chemical reuse in viscose production
🧮 Сalculating fiberglass tubing use in oil wells
💡 Monitoring energy efficiency in oil equipment
🛰 Use of drones and satellite imagery in geological exploration
🌍 Seismic technologies for exploring mature oil fields

Didn’t quite get all that? Neither did we — but trust us, these are some of the most urgent and complex problems in the energy sector.

Teams are focused, ideas are flowing, and the stakes are high.

We’re heading to the final! 🏆

InteRussia fellows, each in a different team, have made it to the final round of the VI International Petroleum Youth Forum!

Today’s semi-final was no easy ride: 40 teams presented their ideas based on 20 industry cases — with just 5 minutes to pitch and face a round of tough questions from leading energy experts.

After a fierce selection process, three of our fellows earned a spot in the final. Tomorrow, they’ll present their projects in front of top industry minds — and the competition is going to be intense.

🤞 Cross your fingers and wish them luck — big day ahead!

The Forum is on! 🔥

The VI International Petroleum Youth Forum is in full swing — an international platform that unites forward-thinking young teams to solve real challenges facing the fuel and energy sector in Russia and neighboring countries.

What are our InteRussia fellows doing here?

They’ve joined 250 participants — students, young professionals, and lecturers — from across the region. Divided into 40 teams of 5–6, they are working on cases prepared by the organisers. Each fellow is now part of a team, brainstorming ideas, testing hypotheses, and turning insights into solutions.

The topics?

From microbiology and oil extraction to cutting-edge approaches in geological exploration — the tasks are as complex as they are exciting.

The strongest project ideas will receive support from Tatneft for real-world implementation.

📸 We’re sharing moments from the forum grounds — and wishing all our fellows’ teams the best of luck!

What role do journalists play in the energy transition?

Today, more than ever, we need bold voices — to explore, explain, and challenge. The international media contest Energy of Words 2025, organized by the Global Energy Association, is your chance to do just that — and to do it on a global stage backed by some of the most influential names in media. From climate change and clean tech to oil, gas, and nuclear power — if you have a story to tell, this is where it begins.

🔴Who can apply?

Journalists, bloggers, and news agency reporters who specialize in covering key events and trends in the world of energy.

🔴Why now?

Because great ideas deserve powerful platforms. Because words shape the way we think about energy. Because your story could spark the next big conversation.

📇 Learn more and submit your application before August 1, 2025.

If you think everything in Russia happens in Moscow — think again. Science had other plans ⚙️

In June, Novosibirsk became a meeting point for young engineers from Chile to Turkmenistan. Over four intense weeks at Novosibirsk State University, InteRussia fellows worked on projects in artificial intelligence for medicine and quantum technologies in electronics and photonics.

Here’s what filled their schedules (and their notebooks):

🔬 Visits to the Technopark of Akademgorodok, the Quantum Technologies Lab, and the Federal Center for Neurosurgery — where fellows explored how engineering innovations are transforming communication systems and high-precision medicine.

🔬 Hands-on training at Eltex, Russia’s largest telecom equipment manufacturer, and NSU’s Analytical and Technological Research Center, where they studied nanosystems and material synthesis up close.

🔬 Sessions at the Institute of Cytology and Genetics and the Earth Evolution Center — tracing life from DNA to meteorites and prehistoric fossils.

🔬 Project work in international teams — training neural networks to analyze brain images and help doctors detect lesions and tumors with greater accuracy.

🔬 A cultural track that included the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, a deep dive into Siberian nature, and even a day in a Cossack village — with horseback riding, knife throwing, and tea in a wooden house.

Every InteRussia fellowship writes its own story. This one just happened to be set where birch forests meet quantum labs.

The InteRussia program in engineering is implemented with the support from the Presidential Grants Foundation and World Youth Festival Directorate.
