InteRussia

Sometimes you don’t need more news — you just need a forest 🌲🦆

A quiet lake. A duck crossing the path like it owns the place. Pines that smell like childhood. These are not metaphors — just five moments our fellows captured while doing their research… in Novosibirsk.

That’s one reason we love InteRussia: our fellowships don’t happen only in Moscow or St. Petersburg. They also take you to places where you meet the real Russia — not just its experts, but its rivers, trails, and morning fog.

📷 Swipe through for a bit of weekend calm.

And next week, by the way, we’ll tell you about another such place.

Got any guesses? Drop them in the comments.

No lab coats, no stethoscopes — just code that learns what’s happening inside your head

The InteRussia AI track in Novosibirsk wrapped up with two full-fledged research projects. Both teams worked on ways to apply artificial intelligence to the analysis of brain pathologies — from tumors to tissue damage.

What they worked on

Split into international teams, they explored how neural networks can process thousands of brain images — detecting tumors, degenerative lesions, and damaged tissue. Their models aimed to support doctors in identifying affected areas faster and more accurately.

Each InteRussia fellowship ends differently. This one ended with working code, a sharper understanding of medical AI, and a shared sense of purpose.

Happy Birthday to our cultural compass and crisis whisperer — Vitalik! 🎂

Whether it's a last-minute schedule change or a question about Ottoman architecture, he’s the one we call. With a perfect Turkish "kolay gelsin" and an even better understanding of what makes people feel welcome, Vitalik builds bridges — between cultures, generations, and Google Calendars.

He’s the curator of our Oriental Studies fellowship, the connoisseur of cultural immersion, and the kind of regional expert who doesn’t just know facts — he makes them come alive. Every program he touches becomes a story to remember.

Vitalik, thank you for your aesthetics, your calm in the chaos, and your absolute belief that a theatre visit can change someone’s life.

We love you, we appreciate you — and we know the best is yet to come 💛

From fellowship to publication: how InteRussia connects ideas — and people

What happens when specialists from different countries meet during a short-term research program in Moscow? Sometimes, it leads to something big — like the release of a new academic volume.

✏️ "Corporate Military Intelligence" is a powerful example.

The book was edited by InteRussia alumnus Monojit Das and includes a chapter by another fellow of the program, Mohamad Hassan Soueidan. Their collaboration began during InteRussia — and continued far beyond.

Next time, this could be your name in the byline. Applications for the InteRussia fellowship in international relations are now open.

Happy Birthday, Alina — our habibti in the InteRussia team! 💫

She’s not the only one who speaks Arabic in our program — but she’s the only one who makes it sound like a warm welcome, a calm solution, and a heartfelt farewell all in one sentence.

Whether she’s guiding young doctors or coordinating with Arabic-speaking journalists, Alina knows how to listen, how to help, and how to be right where she’s needed. From Cairo to Casablanca, her empathy travels farther than any flight.

Alina joined us not long ago, but she’s already part of so many stories — and so many hearts.

🎉 Kul sana w-inti tayyiba, Alina — may your year be filled with joy, discovery, and the same care you always give to others.

Engineering, Meteorites, and Cossack Legends. Week 3 Recap from Novosibirsk 🪐

What do cutting-edge telecom systems, billion-year-old rocks, and horseback riding have in common? They all shaped the third week of the InteRussia fellowship in engineering — a journey that keeps pushing boundaries of learning and culture.

Let’s rewind the highlights:

🔗At Eltex, Russia’s largest telecom equipment producer, the fellows got an inside look at how high-tech systems are born — from blueprint to launch.

🔗At NSU’s Earth Evolution Center, they journeyed through time: from deep planetary layers to prehistoric fossils and meteorites that once lit up Earth’s skies.

🔗At the Cossack Ostrog Cultural Center, they experienced a day in the life of a Cossack — horseback riding, rifle practice, knife throwing, and tea in a traditional village house.

🔗At the Novosibirsk Planetarium, they traveled beyond Earth, exploring how space science and technology bring the universe a little closer to home.

Each stop this week reminded us: engineering isn’t just about machines — it’s about discovering how the world works, from the ground beneath our feet to the cosmos above.
