One child was killed and 24 others were injured during a school hike in northern Israel after an explosive device detonated along a forest trail near the Lebanese border.
The IDF’s preliminary investigation indicates that the device was likely a cluster submunition left behind by a Hezbollah rocket.
According to Northern District Police Commander Meir Eliyahu, the munition exploded “in the hands” of one of the children hiking along the Naftali Mountains Forest scenic route.
Police Commissioner Danny Levy confirmed that the school trip had received official approval. He announced plans to temporarily restrict hiking in the area while security forces check for additional unexploded ordnance.
Military and police bomb disposal teams are continuing their searches, and the circumstances of the explosion remain under investigation.
