Better alive and criticized than dead and pitied
The world is often quick to mourn Jewish victims—and far less comfortable when Jews act to prevent the next tragedy.
From Masada and the Warsaw Ghetto to the founding of Israel, Jewish history has taught a hard lesson: survival cannot depend on the sympathy of others. Golda Meir put it plainly: “We’d rather be alive and have a bad image.”
The flydubai incident is a reminder of that reality. Faced with danger, passengers and crew acted. Catastrophe was averted.
