Maastricht University in the Netherlands has suspended a Palestinian student who posted a video claiming involvement in the Hamas-led Oct. 7 attack on Israel, according to university news outlet Observant Online.

In a viral social media clip, the student watches Al Jazeera airing Hamas propaganda. He then points at the screen, gives a thumbs-up and shouts, “7 October. This is me.”

❗️A spokesperson for Maastricht University stressed that the move should not be construed as punishment, and said there would be no criminal investigation. This contrasts sharply with efforts in the Netherlands and other European nations to criminally prosecute Israelis who served in the war against Hamas.

The student in question is one of more than 40 Palestinians from Gaza who were invited by the Dutch government to come to the Netherlands this summer to study or work.
