One of the most interesting parts of Hipo’s smart contract is its permissionless validator selection.
Anyone can borrow staked GRAM from Hipo, participate as a validator, and return the GRAM + staking rewards after the validation round, keeping their committed validator fee.
We’ve now added a new borrower fee paid for each validation round.
Here’s what happens:
Validator pays the fee in GRAM → Hipo converts it to hGRAM → buys HPO from the market → HPO is burned.
The current fee is 50% and can be adjusted based on market conditions, community feedback, and ultimately a DAO vote.
Since launching this mechanism last week, around 140,000 HPO has already been bought from the market and burned.🔥
And there’s another interesting part
Borrowers compete against each other for the right to borrow Hipo’s staked GRAM.
The validator that commits to returning the highest staking rewards wins the bid.
They can even commit to returning more than the network’s actual staking rewards; meaning the competition can directly increase the rewards received by Hipo stakers.
And this is happening right now.
For the next few validation rounds, current commitments imply an expected APY of around 22–33% for Hipo stakers. 🚀
