Public transport system was severely disrupted in Delhi on Wednesday as a strike by contractual Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) drivers entered its second day, leaving thousands of commuters waiting for hours at bus stops, paying significantly more for alternative transport and adding hours to their daily journeys.

The disruption intensified particularly around afternoon as commuters, stranded at bus stops for hours, spilled onto the streets, trying to hail autorickshaws, e-rickshaws and cabs.

India announced a new-look ODI squad for the upcoming home series against the West Indies, where rookie Punjab all-rounder Naman Dhir and Jammu and Kashmir seamer Auqib Nabi earned their maiden call-ups in the format. However, veteran cricketer Hardik Pandya, who has been out of action since the end of the IPL 2026 season, was not picked.

A series of injury concerns throughout the summer kept Hardik out of action in both white-ball formats. He has, however, been named in an upcoming India A series against Australia A in Puducherry, which is slated to begin on October 6, three days after the end of the ODI series against the West Indies.

US intelligence officers have reportedly warned that China could try to steal F-35 fighter jet technology as the United States plans a $24-billion deal with Saudi Arabia.

According to a media report, US intelligence officers have raised concerns over China's espionage bid in internal reports. Ahead of the pending sale of F-35 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia, intelligence analysts have warned of a possibility that China could attempt to obtain the technology by spying in Saudi Arabia or use its military and security partnership with the kingdom to acquire it.

As the US House of Representatives cleared a bill posing a threat of up to 100% tariffs on India, China and other countries, a senator backed the proposal, saying a “strong message” was needed for countries buying Russian oil.

“We need to send a very strong message, not just to Vladimir Putin, but to anybody who is buying Russian oil and gas, that they are going to pay a price for that,” said Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen on Thursday after the Lindsey O Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026 bill cleared the House.

A public interest litigation (PIL) matter has been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the Centre’s decision to impose a 0.4 per cent merchant discount rate (MDR) on specified UPI person-to-merchant transactions of above ₹2,000. The plea challenges the Centre’s September 14 notification and the MDR framework announced on September 15, which is stated to come into effect from October 15.
