On 27th September, something we'd dreamed about for weeks finally happened: our first group of volunteers came together for a full day of training. It was even better than we imagined. 🩷
Here's how the day went 👇

Volunteers learned how to communicate with children with disabilities respectfully and patiently, and how to build trust that lasts longer than one visit.

A lecture on keeping children safe, with real case scenarios to work through together.

Meet our guest speaker for training day!

Firuza Rasmukhamedova.
Visually impaired from birth, and for the last six+ years, she's been working directly with UN agencies as an Inclusive Communications Specialist and human rights activist — focused specifically on disability inclusion and accessibility.
She's currently completing her PhD, and serves as an Ambassador of the Tashkent Branch of Herzen State Pedagogical University

She's not coming to talk about inclusion. She's lived it, studied it, and spent years pushing institutions to actually practice it — which is exactly the kind of voice our founding volunteers need to hear from before their first Hamroh day!
We're genuinely honored she's joining us.

Not going to lie — building this has been a lot. Late nights, messages that get ignored, figuring things out as we go.
But then someone applies and writes something like "I just want a kid to know someone showed up for them" — and that's the whole reason this is worth it!
We're not a big organization. We're a few people who believed a kid deserves a good day, and a volunteer deserves to feel like they actually mattered to someone — not just another task on a list.
That's still all Hamroh is. Just people, trying to show up for each other.

The world isn't short on people who care. It's short on people who show up.
Somewhere near you, a parent of a child with a disability hasn't had a real break in years — not because no one cares, but because no one they trust ever has.
