Only someone who senses that man, while not the crown of creation, is nonetheless the master of this earth; only someone who sees life and fruit emerging from the work of his hands, or who is allowed to create something that belongs entirely to him, is entirely his own work, only he may consider himself free in the true sense of this precious word. True freedom does not mean rootless boundlessness; no, this is what the Nordic people call the permission to be a creator, this sacred calling thus contains within it mastery over life and matter! And this wonderful opportunity for the highest humanity has been, if not taken from us, then certainly excessively curtailed. Our people have always produced a surplus of adventurers and world travelers, daring and audacious fellows who feared neither death nor the devil. Let us not look down on them with contempt, for their very countenance is that of the eternal Viking: their gentle yet so akin features reveal the most valuable qualities of our race: selfless courage and impetuous energy. Their blood has seeped uselessly into foreign lands over the centuries; they became the cultural fertilizer of other peoples, they flared and faded like comets, leaving their people nothing more than the glory of their deeds and the painful sorrow for their wasted strength. The German house has become too small; not only can we barely feed our people, but we also lack vital raw materials and the land is no longer sufficient for our second and third sons of farmersโall this is secondary. We ourselves must understand that some incomprehensible brusqueness, many misunderstandings, and minor disputes are not a cause for concern, but rather a promise for the future. Our place in the sun is excessively limited today, therefore we must allocate it carefully and postpone certain efforts that, in their own way, could certainly contribute something valuable. These reserved individuals, however, have no reason to grumble: they retain the conscientious preparation for their future tasks.
