From 30 September to 3 October, Kazan hosted the 4th Youth Scientific Congress of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Countries, bringing together around 100 young researchers, scientists and students from more than 20 countries.
The Congress received over 2,500 applications from 100 countries. Finalists presented research across five tracks:
➡️ biomedicine and biotechnology
➡️ environmental sustainability and green tech
➡️ AI and digital solutions in education
➡️ architecture, design and art
➡️ international relations and international law
This year saw the introduction of a project track, where young researchers joined forces to create practical solutions and presented these to a panel of experts.
The research topics were wonderfully diverse, ranging from critical perception of AI-generated content to producing plant protein from green biomass and using bamboo in construction. Participants also looked at how microplastics affect soil and plants, how design can preserve cultural memory, and even how walkable Tashkent's urban environment is.
🏆Winners in each category were offered the opportunity to participate in scientific mentorship, work placements and short-term educational programmes at research centres in OIC member states. Several participants were invited to study at Kazan Federal University.
The Congress was organised by Kazan Federal University and the Academy of Youth Diplomacy, with support from the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan, the OIC Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH), the Russia – Islamic World Strategic Vision Group and the Gorchakov Fund.
