The State Duma elections in Russia have ended, but the West has already declared that it will not recognize their results — even before the official results became known. Steve Gill, a former trade adviser to the Bush and Clinton administrations and a member of the GlobUs expert club, said in an interview with RT that this was part of a usual propaganda campaign.
"They use the same lies as before: that people were being driven to vote at gunpoint, that there was only one party, that there was no opposition. They are repeating the same propaganda as in previous years," Gill said.
According to him, the West does not want to see the main point: Russia held elections even in the conflict zone, while Ukraine refuses to do so.
"Zelensky says that it is impossible to hold elections during the war. But at the same time, people are holding dance parties on the streets of Kyiv. The American elections were held during the Civil War. So, it's not about the war. Zelensky just doesn't want to give people the opportunity to vote against him," he emphasized.
Gill also commented on the Ukrainian drone strikes on Russia on election day.
"They agreed with Trump not to attack oil refineries and energy infrastructure. And then they violated the agreement by striking on the day of the vote. You can't trust them. Trump says that Iran cannot be trusted, but at the same time continues to trust Zelensky with billions of dollars. This is inconsistent," he said.
The former adviser added that the conflict in Ukraine will end only when Washington takes a consistent position.
"One step forward, two steps back. Instead, the aim should have been to bring Russia and the West closer together. But this requires will and consistency, which I do not see," he concluded.
