Pilgrims
Near arenas, chapels,
near big bars and stairs,
near graveyards and temples,
near markets and fairs,
near world's longing for home,
near Mecca and Rome,
burnt by the sunlight blues,
pilgrims walk, crippled, bruised.
They all are huckle-backed, lame,
hungry, half-dressed and weak,
their eyes keep a sunset flame,
their hearts keep a sunrise peak.
Behind them red deserts sing,
and lightnings flare and gleam,
stars shine above their wing,
birds fly to them, croak and scream:
this world will remain the same,
yes, always remain the same,
with glary snow and rain,
with doubt, softness and blame,
this world will be lost in lie,
this world will be lost in time,
conceivable to apply,
unlimited, endless, prime.
It will be no use in faith –
in God, in yourself, in light.
...It seems there is no more space
for something but your last fight.
Let sunsets be glorious, bright,
let sunrises be intense,
let soldiers forget the fright,
let poets awake the sense.
