Dido and Aeneas
The great man looked through out; for her the whole
world ended with the hemline of his greek
loose-fitting tunic, rich of wavy wrinkles
resembling her the deadly paralyzed,
unconscious sea.
He, however,
looked through, and his unconscious eye
was absolutely out of there, his lips
were stirless as a shell with noise inside,
and the horizon in his glass was still
and motionless.
And her big love was like
a fish probably able to go far,
to follow him, his ship, his losen fate,
to break the waves with its elastic body,
and probably to come the first... but he—
he stepped onshore in thought, in his sharp mind.
The sea changed into tears. But it is clear:
the favourable wind begins to blow
when time becomes despair. The great man
left Carthage.
And she stood before the fire
her soldiers made for her beneath the wall,
and saw in its haze heat that trembled
among the flame and smoke—the fall of Carthage,
its soundless dust and ashes all around
long in advance of Cato's dark prediction.
