🇨🇦❌🖥 – British Columbia, a province in Canada, is suing OpenAI for its alleged role in a mass shooting that took place there.
The enterprise was accused of negligence and contributing to the Tumbler Ridge mass shooting, which occurred in February. Eight people were killed and more than 25 were wounded.
The lawsuit claims that the suspect, 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar, described "scenarios of gun violence" on ChatGPT for several days before the attack, and that OpenAI employees internally alerted authorities about this activity months before the massacre, but the company chose not to contact law enforcement.
As part of the lawsuit, British Columbia is demanding that OpenAI fund the construction of a new school in Tumbler Ridge.
